The Earth Observation (EO) for Resilience and Humanitarian Aid Training Programme is an intensive five-day hybrid course designed to strengthen the ability of UN personnel to use geospatial and satellite-derived information in operational, programmatic, and emergency-response settings. Taking place at the United Nations Office in Vienna from 23-27 March 2026, the programme is jointly delivered by UNOOSA, UNU and CEOS space agencies (ASI, CNES, DLR, ESA), bringing together technical expertise from across the international EO community.

5 Days Training:

▪Day 1: Introductory Day (open also to Embassies in Vienna)

▪Day 2: VHR Optical and Machine Learning

▪Day 3: Synthetic Aperture Radar

▪Day 4: Hyperpectral

▪Day 5: Medium-resolution – use of different data sources

•Mix of 50% theoretical / 50% practical

•Certified by United Nations University and UNOOSA

•Maximum capacity 30 persons (in person and online) to keep practical sessions manageable

  • Software installation: devoting more time and guidance for pre‑installation would have been helpful. On this last point, the diversity of IT environments that the different United Nations Organizations made this last point particularly difficult.

Other requests

There survey reveals the following interest for additional training:

  • Hyperspectral data: in particular related to mining and agriculture
  • SAR analysis: SAR techniques, such as interferometry, polarimetry
  • Lidar
  • Multi-sensor analysis: crop yield using soil water monitoring, vegetation monitoring

Some respondents mentioned training covering EO basics.

It was also mentioned the possibility of bringing your own data to complement the analysis.

Modality: All participants would prefer in-person training.
