  • EUMETSAT/EC Copernicus: https://www.eumetsat.int/OC-SVC

In particular, NASA's and EUMETSAT/EC's activities are progressing on the development of PACE and Copernicus in-water OC-SVC infrastructures, respectively.

The progress update for August 2022:

Ocean Colour System Vicarious Calibration (OC-SVC) infrastructure activities are advancing successfully:

  • NASA is continuing with the two projects selected in 2019 for OC-SVC: HyperNAV (SeaBird Scientific/Oregon State Univ. PI: Andrew Barnard - a portable radiometric float) and MarONet (U. Miami/NIST. PI: Ken Voss - a radiometric buoy, portable size). Both projects are moving forward into their third year with some modifications pending the completion of the validation work. Both infrastructures are undergoing in-water testing.
  • Copernicus/EUMETSAT has successfully completed the Phase 3 activities for the potential Copernicus OC-SVC infrastructure. Phase 3 conducted analyses and issued a recommendation on the best location for OC-SVC infrastructure in European waters: https://www.eumetsat.int/OC-SVC-locations. The complete overview of the Copernicus/EUMETSAT OC-SVC activities: https://www.eumetsat.int/OC-SVC.
  • IOCCG has initiated an OC-SVC Task Force. The first meeting of the Task Force is planned for Fall 2022.  The first activity of the Task Force will be to develop an OC-SVC White Paper for CEOS.

The progress as of October 2023:

Significant progress and agency coordination on Ocean Colour System Vicarious Calibration (OC-SVC), including:

  • OC-SVC Task Force meeting at the IOCS’23 meeting in November
  • Copernicus/EUMETSAT OC-SVC Information Day on 8 November 2023 to advance developments towards a potential OC-SVC infrastructure in European sea waters: https://www.eventsforce.net/oc-svc
  • Deployments of NASA's two OC-SVC infrastructures for the PACE mission: HyperNAV and MarONet
  • Ongoing operations and contributions from NOAA’s MOBY system.
