The Fire focus area recognises the lack of community protocols for BA, AF and FRP and focuses on high resolution, traceable data. Fire products, in particular FRP, are challenging to validate owing to the ephemerality of the phenomenon and the challenges in spatiotemporal mismatch, and there is a scarcity of field campaign data. A draft protocol for Burnt Area is being developed, with a first version planned in 2026.
