Status:
Open
Creation Year:
2023
Completion Date:

Description:

The OGC Analysis Ready Data Standards Working Group (ARD SWG), in partnership with ISO/TC 211 and CEOS, aim to develop a multi-part Standard for geospatial Analysis Ready Data, building upon work done on CEOS-ARD by the Land Surface Imaging Virtual Constellation (LSI-VC) and CEOS Analysis Ready Data Oversight Group.

CEOS representation in this group is critical, and this task represents the effort of various entities across CEOS including the CEOS-ARD Oversight Group, LSI-VC, WGCV, WGISS, SEO, and others.

Matthew Steventon | 2023-10-15 16:24:04 UTC

Members of the CEOS-ARD Oversight Group, LSI-VC, and CEOS SEO are actively engaging to ensure consistency with CEOS-ARD.

  • Patrick Quinn (NASA) has been nominated as a co-chair.
  • CEOS is pushing for broad community engagement (space agencies, commercial sector, etc.) to ensure any resulting standard is relevant and used.
  • Pushing for robust first principles framework that ensures strong foundation that is extensibile.

Task is ongoing.

  • A year of Joint OGC-ISO ARD SWG teleconferences
  • Pace of progress incompatible with the expectations, deadlines, and processes imposed upon it.
  • SWG has experienced multiple core challenges
  • Proposal to strategically pause the Joint OGC-ISO ARD SWG activities has been tabled
  • Due to rapid technological development, current efforts to define ARD broadly would benefit greatly by shifting from a standards approach to a more open source specification approach.
    • Allows agile development on an unrestricted timeline which can be reintroduced to OGC and ISO standards processes after it has been iteratively improved, implemented, and has seen adoption by real-world user communities and data providers.
  • With the CEOS-ARD Strategy we maintain leadership of the satellite Earth observation Analysis Ready Data concept through CEOS-ARD, which should serve as the basis for more formal standards at the appropriate time.
