Conduct a 10-week feasibility study focused on the Chesapeake Bay as part of the CEOS COAST initiative to explore how Earth observations can be used by coastal decision makers and build capacity to use CEOS members' freely available data.
A 10-week feasibility project was conducted by NASA DEVELOP, GEO AquaWatch, and CEOS COAST to apply satellite data to monitor water quality in the Chesapeake Bay for end-users at the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve and the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. The project applied freely available satellite data to monitor total suspended sediment and precipitation patterns to understand sedimentation trends and support conservation efforts. The team produced a report and poster, available at https://appliedsciences.nasa.gov/what-we-do/projects/characterization-sediment-dynamics-enhanced-water-quality-monitoring-chesapeake.
