Detailed assessment of the satellite data requirements for the production of SDG Indicator 6.6.1 (Water-related ecosystems) including satellite observation requirements;availability of legacy data; long-term data continuity;gaps in geographical coverage;availability of ARDs;etc.
September 2021: Detailed assessment of the satellite data requirements for SDG 6.6.1 indicator (Change in the extent of water-related ecosystems over time) and its sub-indicators. Review of the latest UNEP 6.6.1 monitoring methodology and UNEP Freshwater Ecosystems Explorer and associated methodologies performed, as a basis to identify areas of better EO uptake within the current methodologies.
September 2022: The SDG 6.6.1 EO Support Sheet" has been aligned with the latest revision of the monitoring guidelines done in 2022 by UNEP and the Ramsar secretariat, the 2 co-custodian agencies of the SDG Indicator 6.6.1. Comments received by the CEOS SDG expert group on water/wetlands have been incorporated in the document. The structure of the support sheet has been updated to sumarise the main satellite data sources, the challenges in current EO approaches, and the areas of improvements for all sub-indicators (e.g., river and Lakes, reservoirs, inland vegetated wetlands, mangroves, water quality, river discharge and groundwater levels). The expert group has been requested to do a final review of the document and provide up-to-date information on existing data sets, tool, platforms and initiatives. The 6.6.1 EO Support Sheet will be released on the CEOS SDG web page for the 2022 CEOS Plenary. Deliverable will be closed in 2002 Q4.
SDG-20-03 deliverable (SDG 6.6.1 EO Support Sheet) will be closed in 2022 Q4 before 36th CEOS Plenary
