Volcano demo reports
Updated September 2019. In 2019 Volcano demonstrator team focused on expanding from the Volcano Pilot's focus on Latin American volcanoes to encompass both Africa and SE Asia in the Demonstrator. The team also released the Volcano Demonstrator Implementation Plan. The number of volcanoes with a recent eruption or episode of unrest spanned by the demonstrator will increase by a factor of three, and the team focused on involving more scientists from SE Asia in the projects and expanding their networks to include volcano observatories in this region. The team will hold a teleconference in mid-October to encourage participation in the Volcano Demonstrator. They are also developing a strategy to coordinate and optimize the use of the X-band SAR imagery available through the CEOS Volcano Demonstrator, in the context of recently available global Sentinel-1 imagery and automatic processing projects. This work is informed by the results of the Powell Centre Volcano Working Group.
In terms of progress, we have amassed a number of examples that we can use to emphasize the success of the project, and we would like to get feedback on the preferred mode of communicating these results, as well as the request for an extension on the project, at the September 2021 WGDisasters meeting.
