Use data from multiple instruments capable of observing volcanic emission gases and aerosols, including Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI), Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment-2 (GOME-2), Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS), and Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer (IASI) to provide operational demonstration services to users in the aviation and other relevant user communities.
Results of ACC Meeting (June 4-5, 2014) a. Detailed discussions of monitoring volcanic ash from space-based observations were presented. Activities in both the US and in Europe were discussed. Emerging services, such as the ESA-sponsored Support to Aviation Control Service (SACS) project continue to produce accurate notifications of detection to end-users and other stakeholders, particularly in the aviation sector. b. The inclusion of measurements from new sensors (e.g., OMPS and CrIS on Suomi-NPP) was welcomed.
