Title:
Reprocessing strategy for TOPEX/Jason-1 missions
Status:
Closed
Creation Year:
2014
Completion Date:
2017 Q4
Description:

TOPEX/Poseidon mission ended in 2006, after 13 years of operation. Although updated products have been generated to align with current standards, a full reprocessing has been long in feasibility study. The Jason-1 mission ended operations in 2013. Final reprocessing is planned by CNES and NASA. Extensive validation of results will be required before release.

(Update from June 2015 SIT Chair TagUp) Reprocessing of Jason-1 is in good shape. For Topex, there is some advance from NASA, but reprocessing is facing difficulties (old data, lack of information) which make it difficult to do more at CEOS level. Some more progress could possibly be made through an R&D program. This action should be CLOSED after CEOS Plenary, where a report will be presented.

Jason-1 reprocessing will continue into the first quarter of FY15 (on a no-cost basis). The major activity this summer was to develop and test the new algorithms and to reconcile the archives at NASA and CNES. There are no expected problems with the current reprocessing plan. There will be a need for extensive validation of results prior to release to the user community.
