Systematic acquisitions consistent with the Element 1 Strategy are ongoing.
Data Services Pilot: The first prototype Data Cube and user interface were delivered in late 2015 with a focus on Colombia. In addition, traditional scene-based data reports were developed for 70 countries and put on the GFOI website.
09/2018: Over the last years SDCG succeeded to increase coverage over GFOI countries with optical sensors (Landsat and Sentinel-2) and an increased coverage by C-band dual-pol acquisition of Sentinel-1. Additionally JAXA provides annual global mosaics of L-band PALSAR-2 sensor on ALOS-2. Since 2017 the goal of the Baseline Acquisition Strategy, the multiple coverage with optical and radar data of the world's forested area has been achieved.
Since 2018 the optical core satellites for forest monitoring Landsat-7 and -8 and Sentinel-2A and -2B are almost acquiring at 100% of their capacity over land. Sentinel-1A and -1B have moved in February 2018 towards an operational observation scenario which covers land at least every 12 days. ALOS-2 continues its global acquisition mission. Acquisitions by regional sensors increase data availability. The increasing amount of available EO data turns the emphasis of SDCG to data uptake with the respective tools and mechanisms e.g. data cubes and cloud computing facilities.
