Number:

Title:
Progress efforts to validate and characterize errors of ocean carbon-relevant products
Status:
Closed
Creation Year:
2015
Completion Date:
2016 Q2
Description:

The CEOS WGCV, in close consultation with the relevant VCs (that are doing some of this work now), will establish a subgroup dealing with validation and error characterization of ocean carbon-relevant products analogous to the Land Product Validation Subgroup.

All Carbon Action Items currently under lead of WGCV are under assessment in order to

  • align the WGCV work plan adequately
  • coordinate with ither CEOS entities
  • identify and coordinate with external bodies if needed
  • identify dedicated alignment to a specific sub-group if possible
  • identify cross-cutting or fundamental items related over the whole WGCV to align with existing WGCV taks (for example: validation metrics) or to implement a cross-cutting task within WGCV and others involved bodies if needed.

Assessment is nearly complete but the consolidation/merging of different input into one work plan is ongoing.

Results: Several action items are fully/partially aligned to ongoing work on sub-group level and to cross-cutting tasks or action items in the WGCV.

Hint: some of action items don't directly translate; some can be combined. An adequate alignment matrix will be provided with the consolidation of the assessment.

CEOS-WGCV is currently developing an interaction model for cooperation with other CEOS entities, especially VCs. Baseline is the current interaction with VC SST. The publication of the CEOS Carbon Strategy but also the needs of WGClimate and the VCs demonstrates that it might be more efficient to follow another organizational path which allows to include ocean, coastal and inland water products as well into the WG's activities in cooperation with the existing VCs.?

Further investigation of resources to be undertaken by WGCV in relation to work with other VC e.g. OCR-VC
